Mesothelioma is one of the rarer forms of cancer with approximately 2000 cases reported in the UK each year. There are two types of mesothelioma; pleural mesothelioma (which causes the lining of the lungs to become thicker) and peritoneal mesothelioma (which causes the lining of the abdomen to become thicker). Both of these forms of cancer are almost always caused by asbestos exposure hence the nickname asbestos cancer. Despite it being one of the less common types of cancer there are still a number of tests out there which I will be outlining in this article.
1) X-RAY:- One of the first tests your doctor is likely to recommend is an x-ray of the chest, the abdomen or both. This will allow them to see a number of things. First, it may reveal the presence of asbestos in or around the lungs or the stomach. Secondly, it will reveal any build up of fluid either around the lungs (which could turn out to be pleural effusion) or around the abdomen (which could turn out to be ascites). Finally, it will allow your doctor to see any thickening, swelling, lumps or tumours around the lungs and abdomen which could turn out to be mesothelioma. If the x-ray does reveal any of the above abnormalities your doctor is likely to recommend further testing.
2) FINE NEEDLE ASPIRATION CYTOLOGY (FNAC):- If the x-ray reveals a build up of fluid in the lining of the lungs or the abdomen your doctor is likely to suggest FNAC. This test involves using a fine needle to take a sample of fluid from either the pleura (the lining of the lungs) or the peritoneum (the lining of the abdomen). The fluid can then be tested in a lab for the presence of cancerous mesothelioma cells. If the FNAC reveals that the fluid contains mesothelioma cells your doctor will be able to discuss treatment options with you.
3) BIOPSY:- If the x-ray reveals any abnormalities in the shape of the pleura or the peritoneum your doctor is likely to recommend a biopsy. This normally involves using a special type of needle to take a sample of cells from the affected areas. These cells can then be analysed in a lab for the presence of cancerous mesothelioma cells. If cancerous cells are discovered your doctor will then be able to talk you through the treatment options available.
Although mesothelioma is one of the rarest types of cancer that does not mean you should neglect the available tests. If you have previously been exposed to asbestos or have any reason to believe you may have contracted this type of cancer go speak with your doctor immediately. Mesothelioma is much more treatable when it is identified early and that can only be achieved through proper testing.

4 Major Risk Factors For Small Cell Lung Cancer
Lung cancer can be broken down into two types; small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancer. SCLC accounts for approximately 20% of all lung cancers. It is often referred to as oat cell carcinoma because the small cells of the lung have a similar appearance to oats. SCLC develops when there is a rapid and uncontrollable growth in the small cells of the lung that eventually leads to a malignant (cancerous) tumour forming. In this article I will be discussing four risk factors that can contribute to the development of this cancer.
1) SMOKING:- Tobacco smoke is the leading risk factor for all types of lung cancer. It is strongly linked with SCLC and is believed to be responsible for over 90% of cases. Even if you do not smoke personally being around others that do can significantly increase your risk of contracting this type of cancer.
The reason that tobacco smoke is such a strong risk factor for SCLC is that it is full of carcinogens (cancer causing substances). According to Cancer Research UK tobacco smoke can contain up to 70 different carcinogens. These carcinogens have been scientifically proven to damage DNA and alter important genes which can then cause your body's cells to multiply in a rapid and uncontrollable way. When you inhale tobacco smoke (either directly through a cigarette or indirectly through second hand smoke) these carcinogens go straight to your lungs greatly improving the risk of lung cancer and SCLC developing.
2) URANIUM:- Exposure to uranium is thought to increase your risk of developing all types of lung cancer. However, it is most strongly linked with the development of SCLC. A combination of uranium exposure and exposure to tobacco smoke increases your chances of developing SCLC even further.
The reason uranium increases your risk of contracting SCLC is that uranium ores are radioactive. Radon (a gas that is created when uranium breaks down) is also highly radioactive. Research has shown that prolonged exposure to radioactive materials can cause cancer. When people are exposed to uranium it is often inhaled meaning that the radioactive materials are carried directly to the lungs. These radioactive materials can then cause cancerous growth in the small cells of the lungs.
3) ASBESTOS:- Asbestos is most strongly linked with a rare kind of cancer called mesothelioma. However, it has also been linked with increasing the risk for other types of lung cancer including SCLC. Asbestos exposure combined with tobacco smoke greatly increases your small cell lung cancer risk.

SCLC is not a pleasant condition. However, unlike many other types of cancer where the risk factors are unclear, SCLC has a number of very definite risk factors. 3 Possible Pleural Mesothelioma Symptoms
Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that affects the lining of the lungs and the abdomen. It is one of the less common types of cancer affecting approximately 2000 people each year in the UK and it is almost always caused by asbestos exposure. If it affects the lining of the lungs (the pleura) it is referred to as pleural mesothelioma. In this article I will be outlining three of the most common symptoms for this type of cancer and explaining what you should do if you suspect you have developed this condition.
The pleura (lining of the lungs) is actually comprised of two parts. It has an inner (visceral) layer which is next to the lung and an outer (parietal) layer that covers the chest wall. The two layers slide over each other as we breath and membranes in the lungs often produce lubricating fluid to make this process easier. When pleural mesothelioma develops it causes the inner and outer layers to become thicker and they then press inwards on the lungs. This can lead to a number of undesirable symptoms which I will discuss below:
1) DIFFICULTY BREATHING:- As the inner and outer layers of the pleura start to push against the lungs it may become difficult for you to breathe. This can then lead to your throat becoming hoarse, coughing, problems swallowing and regular feelings of being out of breath.
2) PAIN IN THE CHEST:- As the layers of the pleura push against the lungs this can cause chest pain. You may also feel pain in your shoulders and arms.
3) PLEURAL EFFUSION:- As I mentioned above the membranes of the lungs produce lubricating fluid which allows the layers of the pleura to easily slide against each other. However, when pleural mesothelioma develops the inner and outer layers become thicker and fluid can become trapped more easily. If fluid does become trapped it is referred to as pleural effusion. Pleural effusion can lead to further chest pain and difficulty breathing but often has no symptoms that you will feel.
If you notice any of the above pleural mesothelioma symptoms you should go see your doctor right away. If you have previously been exposed to asbestos then you should inform your doctor of this also. Since this type of cancer is almost always caused by asbestos exposure this information will help them make an accurate diagnosis. Once your doctor is aware of these symptoms they will be able to perform a number of tests and make the call. If their results indicate that you do have pleural mesothelioma they will then be able to suggest the best treatments for your circumstances.

Cancer In Your Bathroom?
When the alarm rings she slowly gets out of bed, turns on the shower and under the steady stream of warm water, she gently scrubs her body with Ammonia, Formaldehyde and Phenol.
Next, she shampoos her tinted hair with DEA and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.
Rinsing out the shampoo, she applies a good amount of mutagenic DEA & Propylene Glycol and lets it penetrate while she pops the top on the shaving cream and shaves her legs with A-Pinene.

Then she rinses and gargles with Ethanol and Phenol Alcohol.
She combs setting gel through her hair then blows it dry and sprays it with polyvinylpyrrolidine(PVP).
Sitting at her vanity, she carefully applies a thin film of Phenol Carbolic Acid, Dioxin and Propylene Glycol, over her face to reduce the fine lines.
Today, she'll wear foundation and a little FD&C Red #3. And, better add some eye-Iron Oxide, for today she is attending a special meeting.
Oh, and add a little toxic and mutagenic Ascorbyl Palmitate to line her lids, and a stroke of
bacteria & Polyvinylpyrrolide (PVP) to her lashes.
A dab of Benzo-A-Pyrene and Benzo-B-Fluroanthene to color her lips. A spritz of her favorite scent,
Toluene and Benzaldehyde, and a little carcinogenic nitrosamine, NMPABAO on her face, arms and legs to block the suns rays.
Now, she is set for the day. She looks radiant... "breath-taking" beauty we call it... because her looks are literally KILLING HER!

* Shampoo contains Cocamide DEA, which is associated with carcinogenic [cancer-causing] Nitrosamines and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, a known mutagen.
* Hair Tint contains Quaternium-15, which releases carcinogenic Formaldehyde and the carcinogen, Phenylenediamine.
* Conditioner contains DEA & Propylene Glycol both known mutagenic carcinogens.
* Shaving Cream contains a-Pinene, a chemical that damages the immune system.
*Body Lotion contains Mineral Oil, which, as a cosmetic grade Petroleum product, includes the contaminant Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PHAs) known as xenoestrogens that can mimic estrogen in the body.
*Dusting Powder contains Talc, a substance like Asbestos. When talc was combined with a common air pollutant, Benzo(a)pyrene, it induced tumors in 80% of the animals tested.

*Hair Spray contains Polyvinylpyrrolidine (PVP) and reports show that it may cause harm if the particles are inhaled. Modest intravenous doses fed to rats caused tumors.
*Skin Moisturizer contains Phenol Carbolic Acid, which can cause circulatory collapse, paralysis, convulsions, coma and death as a result of respiratory failure.
It also contains PEG-40, which contains dangerous levels of dioxin. And Propylene Glycol, which studies show can negatively alter brain waves and cause liver and kidney disorders.

Peritoneal mesothelioma can lead to abdominal pain, bowel problems and it swelling in the abdomen.
Almost every case of mesothelioma is caused by exposure to asbestos. In the past asbestos was a very popular construction material in the UK. However, as people became more knowledgeable they learnt about the dangers associated with this material. In particular they discovered that the very fine fibres that make up asbestos are easily released when the material is handled. 3 Mesothelioma Treatments Explained

Unfortunately, in most cases chemotherapy alone is not enough to cure mesothelioma and instead helps provide sufferers with a better quality of life. However, it can be effective after surgery for killing off any remaining cancer cells and reducing the risk of recurrence.
Chemotherapy treatment does come with some undesirable side effects. The main side effect is that the drugs used often kill some non-cancerous cells too which makes you more susceptible to infections and can make you tire more easily. There are other associated side effects which include hair loss, nausea and diarrhoea. However, these depend upon the type of chemotherapy drug being used.

What is Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC)?
There are two types of lung cancer; small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). SCLC is believed to account for around 20% of all lung cancer diagnosis. Some of the most common small cell lung cancer symptoms include a regular cough, breathlessness, chest pain and coughing up mucus or blood. The Different Types of Bone Cancer
Bone cancer is a particularly difficult and severe type of cancer. It is caused when there is a problem with the cells which make bones. Every year in the United States, over two thousand people are diagnosed with this type of cancer, in the form of a bone tumor. These frequently occur in children and adolescents. They are less common in adults, especially as they get older, but they do occur. Metastatic bone cancer is more common in adults. This is a type of cancer which spreads to the bone from another cancer site.
There are several different types of bone cancer; there are six common ones, beginning with osteosarcoma. It is the most common type of malignant bone cancer. It occurs more often in males who are between the ages of ten and twenty five, though it does occur in adults older than twenty five as well. Typically, the bone tumors occur in the long bones of the arms and legs, around the knees and shoulders. This type of cancer has a high risk of spreading to the lungs. Its five year survival rate runs at approximately sixty five percent.
Ewing's sarcoma is a very aggressive type of bone cancer, typically occurring in children between the ages of four and fifteen. Again, it is more commonly seen in males. It rarely occurs in people over the age of thirty. It usually shows up in the midpoint of the long bones in the arms and legs. In the event that the cancer has not spread to the lungs or other parts of the body, its three year survival rate is approximately sixty five percent.
Chondrosarcoma is responsible for a quarter of all malignant tumors and is the second most common type of bone cancer. It occurs in cartilage cells and is incredibly unpredictable. The tumors can be either aggressive or slow in forming. In the case of the latter tumors, the survival rate is about ninety percent; for aggressive tumors, it has only a thirty percent five year survival rate.
Fibrosarcoma is a very rare type of bone cancer and occurs in adults between the ages of thirty five and fifty five. It generally shows up in the leg, behind the knee, and is more common in males. Chordoma is also very rare; the survival rate is not very often. It, too, is more common in males and typically occurs once the patient is over the age of thirty. There are also a number of benign bone tumors.
Bone cancer symptoms get worse over time. The most common symptom is pain. At first, it may occur more at night or when the patient is active. The signs of bone cancer may last for a few weeks, a few months, or even years. Sometimes, it is possible to feel the tumors, in the form of either a mass or a lump, generally right on the bone or in the tissue surrounding it.
Other bone cancer symptoms include fevers, chills, night sweats, and inexplicable weight loss. However, these signs are not very common unless the bone tumor has spread to other parts of the body. Increased Cancer Risks Associated With Working The Graveyard Shift
You may have heard some alarming health news recently, about how working the 'graveyard shift' may increase your odds for developing breast or prostate cancer. This story is based on recent research, over the last 20 years, that does, indeed, find an increased rate of breast cancer among women who work at night. But, please keep in mind that high cancer rates, that have been newly discovered in night workers, does not prove that nighttime work, alone, causes one to get cancer.
It is estimated that about 20 percent of the work force in technologically developed countries work the night shift. One of the first people to spot the night shift-cancer connection was Richard Stevens, a cancer epidemiologist and professor at the University of Connecticut Health Center. In 1987 he published a paper suggesting that there may be a a direct correlation to light at night and breast cancer.
Stevens says, "suspiciously, the incidence of breast cancer rates shot up, starting in the 1930's, where industrialized cultures considered it advantageous to progressively increase one's income".
At the time of Steven's first observations, most medical research scientists considered the link, between light at night to increased breast cancer rates, to be pretty weird and wacky. However, over the last 20 years, ongoing research on this disturbing news has continued. There is some compelling evidence that indicates that men working the night shift may also have an increased risk of developing prostate cancer.
It is also interesting to note, that in laboratory research studies with test animals, evidence of the light at night theory, supported Steven's original idea. When light/dark schedules were purposely disrupted, the animals developed more cancerous tumors and died prematurely.
Since the 1980's, the cancer connection to artificial light at night has received quite a bit of attention. There seems to be enough evidence to support the notion that there is a questionable pattern of increased cancer rates in night, and rotational, shift workers.
If you are a night worker do not panic, and determine that you simply must abandon your current job for personal health safety reasons. Also, consider that these ongoing studies are only one small piece of evidence to a very large puzzle. There are many other risk factors involved in developing cancer. In all fairness, other known cancer risks should also be evaluated into this equation as well, like:
1.Lifestyle choices such as exercise habits, substance abuse problems, or drug addictions
2.Daily dietary food and beverage intakes.
3.Sleep deprivation problems such as insomnia and depression.
4.Amount of exposure time that bare skin has a chance to connect with UV sunlight rays, and vitamin D levels.

All of those key factor risks, and many others, as well as a wider variety of test subjects need to be extensively studied. Most of the current, light at night research studies, so far, have only been performed on the nursing profession and airline crews.
What researchers are suggesting, though, is that there seems to be a rather complicated system, of some sort, to lower levels of melatonin and serotonin in correlation to rotational, and night, shift workers. Melatonin is a endocrine system hormone produced by the pineal gland that helps induce sleep, and is gradually released after dark. The pineal gland is located deep in the center of the brain behind the center point in the forehead between the eyes, and is known to have a reaction to sunlight exposure. It is believed that sunlight exposure coming in through the eyes for approximately 20 minutes a day, without contacts, eyeglasses, or sunglasses appears to play an important role in the releasing of melatonin.
Clearly, when normal sleep/wake (also called circadian rhythm) cycles are interrupted with artificial lighting at night there may be a steep health price to pay, for the sake of earning a living. One of the first people to spot the night shift-cancer connection was Richard Stevens, a cancer epidemiologist and professor at the University of Connecticut Health Center. A new study reports that taking certain painkillers can lower the levels of prostate specific antigen (PSA) which can cause problems with the PSA screening tests used for prostate cancer detection.
In this study of more than 1000 men who took nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs called (NSAIDs), levels of PSA were about 10% lower than for men who didn't take these over-the-counter painkillers.
NSAIDs include aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), Naproxen (Aleve) and many others.
This was also seen to some degree for acetaminophen (Tylenol), which is not an NSAID but is not as much of a concern. (acetaminophen is in another class of drugs called analgesics (pain relievers) and antipyretics (pain reducers).
It is not known whether this has anything to do with preventing prostate cancer but might be important to note that it can affect your PSA test. Your PSA reading may actually be higher if you are not using painkillers but it doesn't mean that it has any protective effect.
You may want to let your doctor know if you are taking any over-the-counter painkillers whether it is Tylenol or the NSAIDs. It also leads one to believe what else might affect your PSA level. What Is An Alternative Cancer Treatment?
Significant reassessment in recent years a of the nature and causes of cancer has taken place. Cancer was formerly believed to be a localized disease, characterized by a lesion, usually in the form of a growth, which appeared at some specific part of the body. Amygdalin, or laetrile/B17, is a relatively simple compound found in much of our food supply. It is most abundant in the seeds of non-citrus fruits. Most commercially prepared amygdalin is extracted from the seeds of the apricot.
Amygdalin is composed of:
Two molecules of glucose (a sugar), One molecule of hydrocyanic acid (an anti-neoplastic compound),ane One molecule of benzaldehyde (an analgesic).
In metabolic therapy, the amygdalin is broken down into its component parts as a result of the action of the betaglucidase. This enzyme is found in abundance in cancer cells, and is relatively deficient in normal cells.
Consequently, the cyanide is released only where there is an active cancer lesion. This liberation of cyanide under controlled and safe conditions insures that an adequate dosage can be administered without the threat of toxic side effects.
This absence of cyanide toxicity is further insured by the action of the thodanese, another enzyme. This enzyme is present in large quantities in normal cells but in very small amounts in cancer cells.
Detoxification of cyanide occurs, therefore, in normal mammalian tissue through the action of this rhodanese which, in the presence of sulfer-bearing compounds, converts free cyanide to thiocyanate, a perfectly nontoxic compound. The thiocynate is excreted in the urine.
Slow drip infusion. The most efficacious mode of administration is through the slow-drip infusion technique which was developed in Tijuana, Mexico. It became apparent that the breakdown of amygdalin and its subsequent detoxification was very rapid.
If it were to be administered over a longer period of time, this could be overcome. In addition, the amygdalin must pass through many biological membranes in order to reach its site of action. This can be accomplished by combining the amygdalin with Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO-laboratory grade).
Finally, as vitamin C is known to slow the growth of tumors, it is added to allow the amygdalin and the rest of the metabolic therapy more time to work.
The amygdalin should be added just prior to injection to insure maximum potency. This complete infusion is administered intravenously over a 2 to 3 hour period.
More rapid administration can result in a localized burning sensation due to the large amounts of vitamin C. This infusion is administered daily over the first 21 days of metabolic therapy.
In some instances where the slow drip infusion is not practical, intravenous administration of amygdalin can be used. This method provides the same high concentration in the blood as the slow drip infusion. Three vials (3 grams each) are administered daily in a slow intravenous push, usually in the brachial vein just proximate to the elbow. Preferably this administration should be between meals. The intravenous administration should be daily for 21 days.
Oral Ingestion is the most convenient and most frequently used method of amygdalin administration. The patients leaving the clinic are placed on oral amygdalin. Also, because of the difficulty for some patients in going to the physician's daily, many doctors prefer this method.
Normally for treamtment the tablet size is 500 milligrams (mg). Two of these tablets should be given 3 times a day. If patients have difficulty swallowing, the tablets may be broken up and added to soft food. The patient should take 1 tablet six times a day.

Two molecules of glucose (a sugar), One molecule of hydrocyanic acid (an anti-neoplastic compound),ane One molecule of benzaldehyde (an analgesic).
In metabolic therapy, the amygdalin is broken down into its component parts as a result of the action of the betaglucidase. This enzyme is found in abundance in cancer cells, and is relatively deficient in normal cells.
Consequently, the cyanide is released only where there is an active cancer lesion. This liberation of cyanide under controlled and safe conditions insures that an adequate dosage can be administered without the threat of toxic side effects.
This absence of cyanide toxicity is further insured by the action of the thodanese, another enzyme. This enzyme is present in large quantities in normal cells but in very small amounts in cancer cells.
Detoxification of cyanide occurs, therefore, in normal mammalian tissue through the action of this rhodanese which, in the presence of sulfer-bearing compounds, converts free cyanide to thiocyanate, a perfectly nontoxic compound. The thiocynate is excreted in the urine.
Slow drip infusion. The most efficacious mode of administration is through the slow-drip infusion technique which was developed in Tijuana, Mexico. It became apparent that the breakdown of amygdalin and its subsequent detoxification was very rapid.
If it were to be administered over a longer period of time, this could be overcome. In addition, the amygdalin must pass through many biological membranes in order to reach its site of action. This can be accomplished by combining the amygdalin with Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO-laboratory grade).
Finally, as vitamin C is known to slow the growth of tumors, it is added to allow the amygdalin and the rest of the metabolic therapy more time to work.
The amygdalin should be added just prior to injection to insure maximum potency. This complete infusion is administered intravenously over a 2 to 3 hour period.
More rapid administration can result in a localized burning sensation due to the large amounts of vitamin C. This infusion is administered daily over the first 21 days of metabolic therapy.
In some instances where the slow drip infusion is not practical, intravenous administration of amygdalin can be used. This method provides the same high concentration in the blood as the slow drip infusion. Three vials (3 grams each) are administered daily in a slow intravenous push, usually in the brachial vein just proximate to the elbow. Preferably this administration should be between meals. The intravenous administration should be daily for 21 days.
Oral Ingestion is the most convenient and most frequently used method of amygdalin administration. The patients leaving the clinic are placed on oral amygdalin. Also, because of the difficulty for some patients in going to the physician's daily, many doctors prefer this method.
Normally for treamtment the tablet size is 500 milligrams (mg). Two of these tablets should be given 3 times a day. If patients have difficulty swallowing, the tablets may be broken up and added to soft food. The patient should take 1 tablet six times a day.

3 Tips for Preventing Breast Cancer

In this article I will be discussing three tips that could help you prevent this nasty disease.
1) CONSUME LESS ALCOHOL:- A number of studies have suggested that drinking alcohol can increase your chances of getting this type of cancer. Cancer Research UK estimate that around 2,000 of the breast cancer cases reported in the UK each year are caused by alcohol. Multiple studies also suggest that the amount of alcohol consumed directly influences your likelihood of contracting this disease. Therefore, if you drink alcohol you are more at risk than a none drinker and if you are a heavy drinker then you are more at risk than a moderate drinker.
Now I am not suggesting that you completely alter your alcohol intake because there are other factors that influence breast cancer too. However, it could be a good idea to monitor your alcohol consumption for a week and see if there is anywhere you could make some cutbacks. Perhaps, instead of drinking a glass of wine with every evening meal you could alternate and have it every other night. Maybe instead of going for weekly drinks with friends you could go for a meal or to the cinema on alternate weeks. Small changes such as these could help you reduce your overall alcohol consumption.
2) EAT MORE HEALTHY FOODS:- A lot of researchers agree that a healthy diet is a key element of breast cancer prevention. If your diet contains a lot of processed or man made foods then you really need to cut down as these are normally loaded with trans fat. Instead, try to substitute one of the processed foods in your diet with a piece of fruit or veg every week. A study from Dr Michael Leitzmann that was published in the Journal of Breast Cancer Research [1] suggests that vigorous activity such as running, competitive sports and intense dancing could reduce your risk of contracting this disease. However, less intense exercise did not have the same effect. Therefore, if your current lifestyle is relatively inactive try and do some intense exercise two or three times per week. If you are stuck for ideas jogging, sprinting, skipping and team sports are all good choices.
