Colon Cancer Symptoms From Eating Too Significantly Meat

By Barbara Thomas

Important news for all of us, in particular those who have a higher chance of suffering from colon cancer symptoms. A brand new report suggests that consuming a lot meat, such as processed meats may possibly just up your risk of obtaining colon cancer. Cancer in the colon will be the 3rd most common cancer, right after skin cancers, diagnosed during the United States.

Doctors tell us that most all cancers of this kind get started inside the glands that line the colon and rectum. This type of cancer usually starts out as noncancerous polyps that more than time develop into cancer. Experts are coming to believe that what we put into our bodies may play a component inside risk of colon cancer - a high fat, low fiber diet, loaded with red or processed meats isn't what your entire body needs to stay cancer free.

The AICR recommends eating just 18 ounces of red meat (beef, lamb, pork) per week as this brings only a little increase in risk of colon cancer. This works out to roughly 5 or six smaller portions per week.

Processed meat is really a no-no as the findings in the report showed that consuming processed meat increases your risk of colon cancer two times as much as consuming red meats. The bigger the quantities of processed meat you eat, the additional risk you've for developing colon cancer.

Those who take 24.5 ounces a week (about 3.5 ounces a day) of red meats face a 17% higher chance of colon cancer in comparison to individuals who take in no red/processed meats according to the AICR/WCRF report. Individuals who ate 7 ounces of red meat a day, a whopping 49 ounces a week, were discovered for getting a 34% higher chance of developing colon cancer.

Why is red and processed meat so adverse for you?

No one knows exactly, some suggest chemicals named heterocyclicamines, a by merchandise as soon as cooking meat at a extremely high temperature, might play a part. Processed meats are produced by just this sort of processes - i.e. smoking, curing or salting and adding things like nitrates - none of those sound quite healthy. We also know how the human body changes nitrates into nitrosamines, recognized to raise the risk of cancer.

Moderating your intake of red meats is a smart move. And by creating so you leave much more room in your foods for good meals like veggies and whole grains. As for your processed variety, a smaller amount is more.

The report also cautions against drinking as well a lot alcohol, as this might up your colon cancer risk. Additional fat during the belly area seems to play a component in elevated cancer risk, that's why experts recommend generating other healthy lifestyle alternatives - taking in more fiber and becoming much more active over a normal basis as becoming so important.

Cutting red and processed meats inside diet, in addition to generating other dietary and lifestyle changes (drinking much less alcohol, eating much more fiber, getting active regularly and keeping your pounds inside healthy range) could prevent just under half of all colon cancers. That may be more than 64,000 cases every year according to the latest findings.

The excellent news, explains expert panel members who examined all the literature over a risk of colon cancer symptoms, is that men and women do have an element of manage more than the risk of this terrible disease. You may do one thing to support yourself, but you'll want to act now, and avoiding consuming too much meat is an easy place to start.

The Symptoms Of Ovarian Cancer: Can You Trust Them?

By Owen Jones

The symptoms of ovarian cancer are fairly problematic to recognize regrettably. This is because they are similar to the indications of regular menstruation or menopause that many (or most) women experience frequently anyway. The chance that women who still menstruate have, is if they notice that some of the regular feelings are not quite right.

Menopausal women have a bigger problem because they are new to their situation and it is so unpredictable anyway. The indications of ovarian cancer include: abdominal pain, a feeling of being bloated, twinges and tiredness.

That is why it is so difficult to use these symptoms as predictors or ovarian cancer. However, if you have these indications at a time when you would not normally do so, or if they last longer than usual, then it would be worth checking with a doctor or your gynecologist.

If you are worried, of course, you will need to have a check up, but if you are 'umming and ahhing', endeavor to find out whether someone in your family has had ovarian cancer before. There is a tendency for it to run in families, but that is the case or most kinds of cancer really.

However, if you are looking into your family's history of cancer, bear in mind that cancer can out itself in different ways. for example, a man obviously cannot get ovarian cancer, but if your dad died of cancer you have an increased likelihood as well, albeit it in possibly another kind.

Age is another issue in the likelihood of someone having this form of cancer - the older the more likely to be expected. There is also another bizarre twist here. Women who have had a number of children are least at risk, women who have chosen not to have children are more at danger, and women who have always been incapable of having children are most at danger.

The fact is that this is such a difficult form of cancer to home-diagnose that it is scarcely worth the trouble. You have to listen to your body and trust your gut feelings. If things are not the same as you are used to, go and have a check up as soon as you can.

Apart from that, go for a ordinary check up anyway. Different countries have different recommendations, but whatever advice that your doctor or gynecologist gives you, you should follow. Ovarian cancer can be treated successfully and not only that but if it is caught early enough in young women, treatment does not necessarily mean loss of fertility.

So, the watchword is do not miss your check ups. Almost 75% of women who are diagnosed early can expect a complete recovery. Young women have an even higher chance than older women, which means that older women should go for check ups more often than younger women.

Do not be apathetic about this form of cancer even though the symptoms of ovarian cancer are not simple to recognize, in fact that is a very good reason for you to let an expert check you out. The tests are not invasive and consist of merely a blood test and an ultra sound scan.

Know Information About Signs Of Cancer

Cancer is a group of sickness that can affect almost any and everywhere on the human body, either internally and externally so it is very difficult to pinpoint any specific symptoms. However there are one or more changes that can be seen in the body which can make you suspicious in order to seek medical attention.

In a lot of cases cancers are hard to suspect and may only show signs within the serious state of its growth when most of the damage is already done. One of the most common signs of cancer can be an unusual growth in a cell anywhere in or on the body called a tumor. The tumor may push out on its own or up against blood vessels, organs and nerves.

When individuals experience fever or unexplainable weightloss, it may be a signal that a cancer is at work. Almost all persons with cancer will get fever at sometime; the fever also makes it harder for the body to fight the cancer.

Sudden feelings of extreme tiredness, are a huge symptoms for cancer. Cancer cells use up a lot of the body's energy resources as it grows, so these symptoms take place. The cancer also has the ability to reconstruct the way in which the body creates energy from food to cause excessive tiredness. Cancer can cause extreme and consistent pain in the body, this can also be a signal that the disease is worsening.

Various cancers lead to changes in the color of the skin which is a trait of sickness such as erythema, jaundice, hyperpigmentation and pruritis. Erythema is responsible for making the skin reddened, Jaundice changes the skin and eye colors to a yellowish shade and hyperpigmentation creates a darker looking skin. Pruritis on the other hand causes the skin to itch. Extreme hair growth can also be linked to the growth of cancer cells.

Cancer spread can also change the color and volume of a person's urine and stool. This can lead to diarrhea, constipation. Dizziness, nasseau. Cancer cells are capable of releasing substances into the bloodstream that result in blood clots at various parts in the body. If there are also sores anywhere on the body that don't get better, that may also be a signal for cancer.

There are other cancers that can be felt through the skin. Finding a growth on the breast, lymph nodes, testicles or any soft tissue on the body may be reason for suspicion that cancer might be a threat. It is wise to check for changes in a mole, wart or freckle that changes in size, color or shape. All these symptoms are good enough reasons to get a check up from a doctor.

Early And Late Signs Of Lung Cancer

As with most cancers, the earlier you detect lung cancer the better your chances of survival. In fact, when it's caught in the first stages, there's an almost 50% survival rate after five years. This is a remarkable number considering the fact that overall, lung cancer has only a 15% survival rate.

So the earlier it's diagnosed the better.

And that's why being aware of the signs of lung cancer can mean the difference between surviving and becoming a statistic.

The Early Signs

Since the early signs of lung cancer can easily be mistaken for other conditions, it's often difficult to take them seriously. However, if you're experiencing a chronic cough that doesn't appear related to a virus or allergy, wheezing, chest pain, bouts of bronchitis, or a persistent fever ... it's time to pay attention.

Lung cancer symptoms are often related to the location of the lesions, which settle into the tissues of the lung first. That's why the early signs tend to reflect common cold, flu, and bronchial illnesses. Once the cancer moves beyond the bronchia, new symptoms arise.

The Later Signs

Once lung cancer has metastasize and moved beyond the bronchia, the signs can expand dramatically. For instance, if the cancer has spread to the brain, then common signs might include blurred vision, stroke, and migraines. As you can see, these are serious symptoms that could be related to any number of illnesses. The point is this: don't dismiss them.

In addition, signs such as depression, weight loss, fatigue, shoulder pain, difficulty swallowing, and hoarseness should be taken seriously.

When To See A Doctor

While you don't want to be running to your doctor every time you get the sniffles, if the above signs show themselves, especially if they're persistent, it's better to be safe than sorry. This is particularly true if you've been a smoker or are currently smoking, or if you've ever been exposed to asbestos over an extended period.

It only takes a few hours out of your life to make an appointment and visit your doctor. Here are the signs that should inspire action:

- Unexplained loss of weight
- Persistent shortness of breath
- Stubborn respiratory infections that keep coming back
- A chronic cough that has no apparent cause
- Pain in your chest
- Wheezing
- Fatigue (again, if it has no apparent cause)

The point to remember is that your immune system is busy fighting the cancer. This is why you may find yourself constantly run down and battling nagging infections. It's also one of the reason you may experience mood changes and irritability.

Conclusion

There is a caveat, unfortunately. Nearly a quarter of the people diagnosed with lung cancer never experience any symptoms at all. So while these lung cancer signs can serve as red flags, their absence doesn't necessarily mean everything is just fine. Another reason to see your doctor for an annual checkup.

Acute Myelogenous Leukemia

By Laurette Langerstein

AML or acute myelogenous leukemia is a type of cancer that attacks the human body's bone marrow and blood. The blood cells inside a human body are composed of red blood cells and white blood cells, also known as platelets. Patients who suffer from AML have insufficient amounts of red or white blood cells; in some cases these cells are cultivated in an anomalous, usually reckless pace, which results to the progression and development of illnesses.

Current statistics show that in the USA, approximately 11,900 new cases of acute myelogenous leukemia are being diagnosed each year. Studies also indicate that acute myelogenous leukemia is not contagious or genetic; it usually results from exposure to the chemical benzene. Research further indicates that 65 is the average age of a person suffering from AML.

Benzene Exposure

A chemical compound, benzene is highly flammable and is a recognized carcinogen. Although its use in gasoline has been minimized, it has turned into an essential solvent for industrial purposes. It is used in the production of synthetic rubber, plastic and certain drugs. Exposure to benzene has been linked to the development of acute myelogenous leukemia and other types of cancer.

The health problems that may result from exposure to benzene are:

*Leukemia and other forms of cancer

*Development of anemia

*Dizziness and confusion

*Immune system functioning below normal

Symptoms of AML

Patients who suffer from acute myelogenous leukemia are commonly unaware that they have been exposed to benzene. This is exposure often occurs through accidental ingestion or inhalation due to the nature of their work, or in their immediate surroundings. Benzene exposure over a prolonged period of time can result to acute myelogenous leukemia and other fatal diseases, which are sadly oftentimes diagnosed too late for the fatal end-results to be reversed.

Patients who have acute myelogenous leukemia experience the following symptoms:

*Joint or bone pain

*shortness of breath and fatigue

*Infections that are recurring

*Swelling of the abdomen

4 Possible Cancer Risk Factors

Cancer is a disease that causes the process of cell division to go wrong in the body ultimately leading to the formation of a cancerous tumour. Although we know how cancer develops we do not know what triggers the cancerous growth. However, there are certain risk factors associated with it. In this article I will be discussing four of these possible cancer risk factors in greater detail.

1) AGE:- As discussed above, cancer develops when the process of cell division malfunctions. The older we get the more times our cells have divided meaning there is more opportunity for something to go wrong. Furthermore, the older we get the more times our body's cells release DNA damaging by products that can disrupt the process of cell division. Therefore, age acts as a cancer risk factor.

2) EXPOSURE TO CARCINOGENS:- Carcinogens are substances that are directly involved in the promotion of cancer. They can be found in; asbestos, car exhaust fumes, tobacco smoke (which contains over 70 carcinogens) and radiation. Therefore, people who are heavily exposed to these substances (such as heavy cigarette smokers) have an increased cancer risk.

3) POOR DIET:- Research suggests that certain foods can protect you against cancer. For example, fruits and vegetables contain a number of powerful anti-oxidants that can protect your cells from damage. Therefore, by eating a poor diet that is devoid of these nutrients you increase your risk of contracting cancer.

4) SEDENTARY LIFESTYLE:- Research has shown that there is a strong link between exercise and cancer risk. The more exercise you do the less likely your chances of developing cancer appear to be although it is not known exactly why. In a study of 40,000 men by Cancer Research UK those who walked or cycled for an hour a day were 16% less likely to get cancer. Therefore, people who lead an inactive, sedentary lifestyle have a greater chance of getting cancer.

Although no one is sure exactly what causes cancer to develop, research has identified the above as definite risk factors. Whilst aging cannot be controlled if you stay away from carcinogens, eat the right foods and exercise regularly you can significantly reduce your chances of contracting cancer.

Whilst every intention has been made to make this article accurate and informative, it is intended for general information only. Cancer is a very serious, life threatening condition and you should discuss any concerns, treatments or lifestyle changes fully with your doctor.

3 Major Types Of Cancer Explained

Cancer is a disease that can affect any of the body's cells. It starts to develop when the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) in your body's cells becomes disrupted or damaged. DNA contains specific instructions that tell your cells when to divide and multiply which allows them to grow in a controlled manner. If the DNA becomes disrupted then these instructions become distorted your cells start to grow in a rapid and uncontrollable way. This uncontrolled growth causes a lump to form which is referred to as a tumour. This tumour can ultimately become cancerous and start to affect other areas of the body. In this article I will be discussing three of the major types of cancer in greater detail.

1) CARCINOMAS:- Carcinomas are the most prominent type of cancer accounting for around 85% of all diagnoses. They develop in the epithelial cells that line the body and its organs. Carcinomas can be further grouped into four sub-types; squamous cell carcinomas (which affect the lining of the mouth and the airways), adenocarcinomas (which affect the lining of the glands), transitional cell carcinoma (which affects the lining of the bladder) and basal cell carcinomas (which affect the skin).

2) LEUKAEMIAS & LYMPHOMAS:- These types of cancer represent around 7% of cancer cases. They are grouped together because they both develop in the cells of the immune system. Leukaemias develop in the cells of the myeloid system which protects your body from bacteria and parasites. Lymphomas develop in the lymphatic system which help your body fight infection.

3) SARCOMAS:- Sarcomas are one of the rarest types of cancer accounting for less than 1% of all diagnoses. They develop in the connective tissues of the body and can be further divided into three main sub-types; bone carcinomas (which affect the bones), gastro-intestinal stromal tumours (which affect the stomach and the intestine) and soft tissue sarcomas (which affect soft connective tissues such as muscle and fat).

Cancer is a horrible disease which very often turns out to be fatal. Unfortunately, many people know very little about this condition and how it develops. I hope this article has helped you learn a little more about this disease and shed some light on the various types of cancer and the cells they affect.

Whilst every intention has been made to make this article accurate and informative, it is intended for general information only. Cancer is a very serious, life threatening condition and you should discuss any concerns, treatments or lifestyle changes fully with your doctor.

Get the brief details about colon cancer

By Tyron Raugh

Cancer is the growth of too many cells in a certain part of the body, and depending on which part of the body it occurs, it is given different names. An important organ that aids in the digestion of food in humans in the colon, commonly known as the large intestine. It is the last organ involved in the digestive tract. If cancer cells form in the inner lining of this colon, or at the rectum, that kind of cancer is called colon cancer. Colon cancer has become a common ailment in today's world.

All cells in a human body undergo the process of life and death. This growth is considered cancerous when it occurs against the natural rhythm and cannot be controlled by the immune system. These cells then form a mass, better known as tumors. Tumors are called benign or malignant, depending on how much the cells affect other regions of he body. Benign tumors do not spread or invade any other part of the body. Malignant tumors on the other hand keep dividing uncontrollable and can invade other parts of the body and destroy the healthy cells in the body.

There are many known risk factors that may increase the chance of colon cancer occurring in a human. Those over the age of 40 are said to be at a higher risk of developing colon cancer, and colon cancer has rarely been diagnosed in those under forty. Having a family history of colon cancer can also increase the chances of developing the disease. Other factors like having had benign tumors or polyps removed before, having a diet that is high in fat but low in fiber and having another illness that may increase chances of developing colon cancer are all considered to be risk of getting colon cancer.

There are many symptoms that are linked with the presence of colon cancer but having one or more of them does not necessarily mean colon cancer is present. Symptoms like bleeding from the rectum should never be ignored, but they do not mean you have colon cancer. Changes in bowel habits, pain in the abdomen or rectum and a feeling that bowel movement cannot be completed are also symptoms. Again having these symptoms does not mean you have colon cancer but they should be taken seriously and a doctor has to be consulted to find out what may be causing these irregularities.

Researchers have gone far in identifying ways to cure colon cancer, and success rates are very high. Treatments for colon cancer include surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy, and usually a combination of these therapies is given to a patient to increase the efficiency of treatment.

Do You Have IBC - Inflammatory Breast Cancer?

This is not your normal type of breast cancer. What is the norm - you ask? It is self examination looking for lumps or a hard tissue mass, MRI exam, mammogram, etc.

Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is a change in the breast tissue that does create a lump or hard tissue mass. Instead it is a redness, or possible swelling, maybe a warm feeling the breast area, or it could be an infection.

Bottom line it is some sort of change in the breast that is not normal. Check it out - immediately!

If you call your Doctor and ask about about IBC, he may not know what it is. Look for a medical professional that does about IBC. As I said it is not your normal breast cancer type.

Regardless of what some doctors may say IBC is not caused by an infection, it is caused by cancer cells blocking the lymph nodes. IBC is only about 1% to 3% of all breast cancers that have been detected in the U.S.

What are the symptoms? They are definitely different than what you might expect. There are no lumps and won't probably show up on a mammogram.

It appears that African-American and younger women have a higher incidence. IBC is aggressive in its growth. In fact, when it is first noticed it could already be at Stage III. By the time it is diagnosed it could be late State III or even Stage IV and may have already metastasized to other parts of the body.

So what are the signs...

Anything unusual with the breasts
One breast larger than the other
Soreness in one breast
Redness, rough texture like an orange peel
Inverted nipple
Thickened areas
A warm feeling which would indicate infection
Any pain with breast manipulation or otherwise

A doctor may be slow to diagnose, find another doctor. You cannot delay any diagnosis, days are important.

Locate some vitamin supplements like immune booster products, vitamin B17, apricot seeds (kernels), antioxidants, parasite and detox cleansing programs.

Cancer can be the result of a weak immune system or an immune system that is not doing its job correctly. Supplementation with vitamins, herbs and minerals that are targeted towards correcting the body's immune function is very important.

Vitamin B17 and apricot seeds, according to some information, target the cancer cells directly. Books have been written about vitamin B17 or laetrile. One is "The Death of Cancer", by Dr. Harold Manner.

Another alternative holistic natural treatment that is FDA approved is hypothermia combined with low radiating dose. All methods of treatment need to be considered especially the natural way. Chemo and radiation treatment are very destructive to the body's immune system.

Be aggressive in your research, check all forums, blogs, etc. Ask questions not only online but of the medical professionals that you have access to for any suggestions they may have on your options for treatment.

Joni Bell has many years of extensive study in the area of natural cancer prevention and treatment. He has numerous success stories of people being diagnosed living cancer free with use of alternative methods. http://apricotpower-info.com

How to Tell if You're at Risk for Mesothelioma

By Heidi Wingrain

You may have heard about Mesothelioma by listening to commercials on TV, but you may also be unaware that you could be at risk of developing this serious form of cancer that is usually caused by exposure to asbestos. Since a person may not develop any symptoms of the disease for as long as 20 to 50 years following exposure, if you were working prior to the mid 1970s, you could well have been exposed and still not show any signs of it. If you know that you worked in an industry that involved asbestos back before this time and are experiencing general chest or back pains, you should have it checked out. After all, people who worked in environments that exposed them to asbestos fibers need to watch for symptoms for the rest of their lives.

In cases of Mesothelioma, cancer cells can develop in the lining surrounding the lungs, inside the ribcage, and around the organs in the abdomen. It's possible that even limited exposure to asbestos, like in the home, could result in Mesothelioma, but usually people who were exposed for longer periods of time are more susceptible. You may not even realize that you were exposed. A lot of employers back then withheld the information about asbestos exposure from their employees. For example, if you worked in construction one summer, you might have been exposed. It's also very common for people who were in the Navy prior to the mid 70s to develop Mesothelioma.

Prior to the 1970s asbestos was widely-used in many different applications. Once the reports of the health risks involved in its use started to be made public, this use of asbestos was curtailed. Before that time, however, almost every type of insulation contained asbestos, such as that used to insulate pipes, do fire-proofing, and in boilers. Types of plasters, cements, and joint compounds that came in powdered form and were intended to insulate were also full of asbestos. Since the powders caused a lot of dust, employees who breathed the air while using them were particularly vulnerable to asbestos exposure.

People who worked in the following occupations prior to the mid 1970s need to be alert for the symptoms of Mesothelioma: * Paper mills * Brake and clutch shoe manufacture * Boilermakers * Electrical and carpentry workers or bricklayers * Insulation - manufacture or installation * Steel refineries and other steel industries * Shipyard workers * Maintenance workers

Even if you know you worked in one of these industries and could have been exposed to asbestos, there's no need to panic. Since this exposure will place you at a higher risk for Mesothelioma, however, you'll want to make sure your doctor knows all the specifics. He may even want to run some tests just to make sure that you aren't showing any signs of the disease. Most likely he will want to do a complete physical if you haven't had one lately and have some x-rays taken of your chest and abdominal area. He might want you to take pulmonary function tests, a CT scan, or an MRI. If you show no symptoms, then you're clear for now, but you'll have to keep watch for the development of the condition all the rest of your life.

If you should happen to be diagnosed with Mesothelioma sometime in the future, you'll want to hire a lawyer who specializes in this type of litigation to file a claim against your employer. You may be eligible for restitution if it can be proven that your employer was in any way negligent in providing you with information or safety equipment that could have prevented your illness.

What are the early symptoms of ovarian cancer

By Mark Ardine

In the US, ovarian cancer is the fourth major cause of death from cancer for women and affects 1 in 57 women. This can be successfully treated if it is diagnosed early. However, only about 24% of ovarian cancer cases are detected early on, resulting in lower survival rates. Hence, it is highly essential for women to watch for early symptoms of ovarian cancer.

To help people recognize the signs of ovarian cancer, the American Cancer Society in 2007, published some guidelines. Early symptoms of ovarian cancer can be bloating, gas, a "full" feeling, tiredness, irregular periods, abdominal or pelvic pain, and intense or frequent urination. Having a hard time eating or feeling full too early after beginning to eat are also signs of the presence of ovarian cancer.

Women who are at risk for ovarian cancer should monitor and report suspected early symptoms of ovarian cancer to their doctor in order to have it diagnosed early. Right now, early ovarian cancer cannot be definitively detected by any one screening examination. Certain symptoms like menstrual irregularities or pelvic pain is not always indicative of ovarian cancer, but awareness of any early symptoms of ovarian cancer is helpful in saving lives.

In order to rule out ovarian cancer, it is essential to visit your doctor if you experience any sudden or out of the ordinary symptoms, and then follow it up with a bimanual pelvic exam, a transvaginal ultrasound, and a Ca125 blood test. Women who have the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutation, have never used birth control pills or have had no pregnancies and whom were diagnosed with breast cancer before they were 50 years old are more likely than most to develop ovarian cancer.

Some women are at more risk of developing ovarian cancer than others. Women who are Ashkenazi Jews, are over the age of 50, have 2 or more relatives diagnosed with ovarian cancer, have been exposed to many fertility drugs are at higher risk. Regular monitoring for early symptoms of ovarian cancer are doubly important for these women.

Having regular gynecological check-ups are important for any woman's health. Immediate medical attention should be sought for symptoms that are present for greater than a few weeks. It is also important to realize that what may seem to be early symptoms of ovarian cancer may be something else entirely. These symptoms can also indicate ovarian cysts, irritable bowel syndrome, or another condition that a medical examination would be able to detect.

It is extremely critical to be aware of what the early symptoms of ovarian cancer are so this disease can be stopped before getting any worse. More than 6 percent of cases of cancer are fatal and women along with their physicians need to be aware of these symptoms and keep a close watch for them.

Symptoms of Prostate Cancer

By Maria Wren

Early detection of this disease means early treatment. But the symptoms of prostate cancer in the early stages are often non-existent if not altogether absent

Urinary problems are usually the earliest signs to present themselves. These in themselves may be misleading as they are the same for both non-cancerous and cancerous tumors.

Benign tumors are easy to treat if they are the cause for the urinary difficulties. The doctor will do this in order to verify the case for malignant cells.

These are the symptoms to look out for :

-- passing urine often

-- leaking of urine and difficulty in starting urination

-- pain or even a burning sensation in urination

-- weak stream of urine

-- blood in the urine

-- some amount of impotence

-- painful ejaculation

-- discomfort in the pelvis and legs

-- stiffness or pain in the lower back

-- losing weight

The doctor will give an accurate diagnosis of the patient's exact condition after appropriate and thorough testing.

Symptoms of prostate cancer need early detection to allow for checking the spread of the disease and what treatment is needed. Why not get tested today.

Blood In The Stool - When Misdiagnosed As Hemorrhoids By A Doctor May Result In Medical Malpractice

Patient: "Doctor, I am seeing blood in my stool when I go to the bathroom."

Doctor: "Don't worry about it, you probably just have hemorrhoids."

Tragically, a year or two later this patient learns that the bleeding was actually caused by a cancerous tumor in the colon. He or she now has advanced colon cancer that has spread to the lymph nodes or even to a distant organ, such as the liver or the lungs.

Doctors generally recommend that if an individual has rectal bleeding or blood in the stool, testing should be done to rule out the possibility of colon cancer. The test that is most commonly performed to rule out colon cancer is called a colonoscopy, which involves the use of a flexible tube with a camera on the end to visualize the inside of the colon. If growths (polyps or tumors) are found, they can be sampled (by biopsy) and possibly removed during the procedure. The samples (biopsies) are then examined for the presence of cancer. If no cancer is found, then colon cancer can often be ruled out as a source of the blood. Unfortunately, all too often, an individual's doctor will simply attribute the blood to hemorrhoids without referring the individual to a specialist (a gastroenterologist) and without ordering any testing, such as a colonoscopy, to rule out colon cancer.

Colon cancer is a disease that progresses over time. As colon cancer advances it becomes more difficult to treat successfully. For example, when the disease is in stage 1 or stage 2, it is still contained inside the wall of the colon. Treatment for these stages usually involves surgery to remove the tumor and surrounding parts of the colon. Chemotherapy is often not usually part of the treatment of stage 1 and stage 2 colon cancer unless it is given to a person who is young as a preventative measure. With treatment, the individual with stage 1 or stage 2 colon cancer has an excellent chance of surviving the disease for at least five years after diagnosis. The relative 5-year survival rate is over 90% for stage 1 and 73% for stage 2. By the time the colon cancer progresses to stage 3, it has spread outside the colon and treatment requires both surgery and chemotherapy (possibly with other cancer affecting drugs as well). The relative 5-year survival rate for stage 3 colon cancer is 53%. If the colon cancer progress to stage 4, the relative 5-year survival rate is reduced to approximately 8%. Treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and other medications may or may not still be effective. When treatment is no longer effective, colon cancer is fatal. Approximately 48,000 people will die in the U.S. from colon cancer this year alone.

It is thus critical that colon cancer be diagnosed as early as possible. Unfortunately, all too often doctors simply assume that blood in the stool or rectal bleeding is the result of hemorrhoids, even after multiple complaints by the patient. Instead of referring the patient to a specialist (a gastroenterologist) or ordering tests, such as a colonoscopy, to rule out colon cancer, they tell the patient that there is nothing to worry about. If the patient died have colon cancer and it is not detected until one or two years later, it may progress to a stage 3 or a stage 4 by the time of diagnosis. At this point, the colon cancer may be much more advanced than it was at the time the patient complained of rectal bleeding or blood in the stool. As a result, the patient now has a much reduced chance of surviving the colon cancer. Under such circumstances, the failure of a doctor to rule out colon cancer at the time of the patient's complaints may constitute a departure from the accepted standard of medical care resulting in a medical malpractice claim.

Colon Cancer: The Whole Symptoms Guide

By Jenni Snook

In order to treat this disease successfully, you must be aware of the various types of colon cancer symptoms. For those who don't know what a colon is, it is an organ of the body that is about 4 feet long in size. It also has the form of a tube and is pretty muscular. You can find the colon at the conclusion of the small intestines. In fact, the colon goes all the way to the anus. Cancer in the colon can have serious consequences on the health of a human being. This article will explain what important symptoms will appear if you should ever experience problems with your colon.

What The Colon Does

While the colon performs various roles, medical experts have come to an agreement that it performs 3 main roles. They are:

1. The colon takes the nutrients from the foods that are consumed, and then digests the foods appropriately.

2. It's a crucial organ when it comes to making the fecal matter that is obliterated from the body by engulfing the electrolytes from the food that come through this area.

3. Every time we eat something, the body stashes away and then eradicates fecal matter from the body and the colon has a vital role in this entire process.

How Does Colon Cancer Come About?

There are a number of potential culprits when it comes to the causes of colon cancer. The main culprit is typically a group of cells that are considered to be "abnormal" in the area of the glands inside the large intestines. There are known as "adenomatous polyps". These are essentially growths which typically display a big side. The only time in which they reduce in size is when a level of degeneration is experienced. Colon cancer typically develops in an individual before they reach the age of 40. However, it should be understood that, regardless of age, this cancer can still develop. Many people also develop cancer of the large intestines when they have the susceptibility in their genes.

List of Colon Cancer Symptoms

As pointed out earlier in the article, there are various symptoms of colon cancer and here are some details regarding these:

1. Experiencing bleeding from the rectal zone of your body is a very common symptom of colon cancer.

2. Anemia is often associated with this type of cancer. This is low iron level in the blood. People who have pale skin, and experience fatigue on a regular basis may be suffering from anemia that is related to cancer of the large intestines.

3. One may find that they are vomiting quite often, with no known cause. Nausea is often experienced on a regular basis.

4. After movement of the bowel, feeling that they have not yet "finished".

5. A significant drop in weight without any obvious cause is linked to the cancer. Furthermore, many find that their abdomen swells up as they drop in weight.

The above symptoms are the most common ones when it comes to colon cancer. If you believe that you possess any of these colon cancer symptoms, it is recommended that you go and see your doctor as soon as you can.

The Relationship Between Cancer of Prostate and Smoking

By Catherine Howez

More than one source indicates that smoking causes serious health problems. In men, this includes possible development of potentially fatal cases of prostate cancer.

Cancer and Effects of Smoking

Evidence confirms that an indirect relationship between smoking and a variety of types of cancer definitely does exist. The development of this serious health problem usually starts out as an illness that attacks the respiratory system.

Further damage to the body occurs when the breakdown of the immune system takes place. This effect is most noticeable in people who have smoked heavily for several years.

For instance, men might experience various forms of malignancies such as prostate cancer advanced stages. This cancer may or may not have already spread to other areas of the body as well.

Risk Factors for Cancer of Prostate

Up to 66% of men who have ever smoked are at highest risk of experiencing the most advanced stages of cancer. The highest risk would be in those who presently smoke and the lowest risk is to those who quit smoking over ten years ago.

Additional research also supports the evidence that there is a strong relationship between smoking and cancer of prostate. Men who smoke have experienced varying stages of this cancer that may have spread to other areas of the body.

The most sever cases of any type of cancer including this one occurred in men who were observed that smoked for 20 to 40 years. This study was based on men who smoked one pack a day for 40 years or two packs a day for 20 years.

Answers for Men

Of course, the best time to make changes is before health problems of any kind emerge. However, it is usually never too late for a person to quit smoking.

Even if the risk of getting cancer of prostate is still high for men who just quit smoking it is never too late to make a change. With every passing year the risk of severity of this type of cancer is decreased. Quitting smoking could even save a man's life.

People are learning more ways to prevent prostate cancer. They know now that one of those ways is to quit smoking.

3 Possible Warning Signs for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

There are two types of lung cancer; non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancer (SCLC). NSCLC is the most prevalent of the two with around 80% of lung cancer cases being this type. It begins when the cells of the lungs start to grow rapidly and uncontrollably which ultimately leads to the formation of a tumour. This tumour continues to grow and damages the lung cells around it. NSCLC can go unnoticed but if you know what to look out for it can be diagnosed and treated early. In this article I will be discussing three of the possible warning signs for NSCLC.

1) CHEST PAINS:- Chest pain is a possible warning sign for non-small cell lung cancer. The chest pain may be constant or sporadic. Some chest pains will only come about when you are breathing or coughing. However, other chest pains will have no apparent cause. If you notice any type of chest pain you should go and see your doctor right away. They will then be able to determine the cause of these chest pains and let you know if they are related to NSCLC.

2) COUGHING:- Any cough that lingers for more than a week or two usually indicates that there is a problem with your lungs. Some coughs will be basic and just make your throat feel dry. However, other coughs will be more serious and cause pain or result in blood being coughed up. If you notice any type of cough that does not disappear after a week then you should inform your doctor. If any blood comes up you should go see your doctor immediately as this is one of the more serious NSCLC symptoms. Although the coughing may prove not to be linked to NSCLC your doctor will be able to perform the tests and give you an accurate diagnosis.

3) FATIGUE.- A number of cancers including NSCLC can cause you to become fatigued. This is when you feel tired and lack energy all the time, even if you have adequate rest. It is not fully understood why non-small cell lung cancer leads to fatigue but one good theory is that the cancerous cells compete for nutrients at the expense of normal cells. This then prevents the normal cells from growing and functioning properly. If you feel extremely tired and these feelings do not go away even when you get plenty of rest and sleep you should go see your doctor. They will then be able to identify the cause of this chronic fatigue.

NSCLC is responsible for approximately 40,000 deaths each year. However, it is much more treatable if it is caught early. If you notice any of the above early warning signs you need to consult your doctor right away. Although the symptoms may be unrelated to non-small cell lung cancer they are often your body's way of telling you that something is up. Your doctor will be able to see what is causing these symptoms and provide you with the proper advice and treatment.

3 Potential Small Cell Lung Cancer Symptoms

There are two main types of lung cancer; small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Of these two types, SCLC represents around 20%. It is often nicknamed oat cell carcinoma due to the oat like appearance of the small cells of the lungs. SCLC develops when these small cells start to grow in a rapid and uncontrollable way and eventually become malignant (cancerous). Since this cancer affects the lungs this is the area where most of the symptoms manifest. In this article I will be discussing three of the most common small cell lung cancer symptoms.

1) A PERSISTENT COUGH:- If you notice you have a cough that does not seem to go away it could be a sign of SCLC. A lot of coughs will have no other symptoms than a dry, hoarse, itchy feeling in the throat. However, some coughs result in phlegm and blood coming up. Other coughs can even cause pain. You should inform your doctor if you notice any type of persistent cough and if any phlegm or blood comes up you should inform them right away. The cough may be down to something much less serious but it may also be an early warning sign of SCLC. Your doctor will be able to perform a number of tests and give you a professional diagnosis.

2) BREATHLESSNESS:- Feeling breathless for no apparent reason is another potential small cell lung cancer symptom. This can often lead to you feeling tired and lacking in energy whilst performing every day tasks such as walking down the street. Regardless of whether the breathlessness comes on gradually or suddenly it should be treated with suspicion. If you notice yourself becoming short of breath for no logical reason go see your doctor and explain your concerns. They will then be able to identify the cause of the breathlessness and determine if it is linked to SCLC.

3) CHEST PAIN:- Chest pain is a very serious symptom which is linked with a number of conditions including SCLC. The chest pain may be caused by coughing or deep breathing. However, you may also experience constant or spontaneous chest pain. Any type of chest pain should be treated with extreme caution and you should go see your doctor right away. They will then be able to perform a number of tests to identify the cause.

Many of the symptoms of small cell lung cancer are linked to the chest. Although the above symptoms are not exclusive to SCLC, they do usually act as early warning signs. If you notice any of the symptoms discussed above you should inform your doctor right away. They will be able to investigate any suspicious coughs or spontaneous chest pains and determine if they are linked to SCLC. This type of cancer is much more treatable in the early stages so it makes sense to act on any potential symptoms early and go see your doctor.

3 Popular Mesothelioma (Asbestos Cancer) Tests

Mesothelioma is one of the rarer forms of cancer with approximately 2000 cases reported in the UK each year. There are two types of mesothelioma; pleural mesothelioma (which causes the lining of the lungs to become thicker) and peritoneal mesothelioma (which causes the lining of the abdomen to become thicker). Both of these forms of cancer are almost always caused by asbestos exposure hence the nickname asbestos cancer. Despite it being one of the less common types of cancer there are still a number of tests out there which I will be outlining in this article.

1) X-RAY:- One of the first tests your doctor is likely to recommend is an x-ray of the chest, the abdomen or both. This will allow them to see a number of things. First, it may reveal the presence of asbestos in or around the lungs or the stomach. Secondly, it will reveal any build up of fluid either around the lungs (which could turn out to be pleural effusion) or around the abdomen (which could turn out to be ascites). Finally, it will allow your doctor to see any thickening, swelling, lumps or tumours around the lungs and abdomen which could turn out to be mesothelioma. If the x-ray does reveal any of the above abnormalities your doctor is likely to recommend further testing.

2) FINE NEEDLE ASPIRATION CYTOLOGY (FNAC):- If the x-ray reveals a build up of fluid in the lining of the lungs or the abdomen your doctor is likely to suggest FNAC. This test involves using a fine needle to take a sample of fluid from either the pleura (the lining of the lungs) or the peritoneum (the lining of the abdomen). The fluid can then be tested in a lab for the presence of cancerous mesothelioma cells. If the FNAC reveals that the fluid contains mesothelioma cells your doctor will be able to discuss treatment options with you.

3) BIOPSY:- If the x-ray reveals any abnormalities in the shape of the pleura or the peritoneum your doctor is likely to recommend a biopsy. This normally involves using a special type of needle to take a sample of cells from the affected areas. These cells can then be analysed in a lab for the presence of cancerous mesothelioma cells. If cancerous cells are discovered your doctor will then be able to talk you through the treatment options available.

Although mesothelioma is one of the rarest types of cancer that does not mean you should neglect the available tests. If you have previously been exposed to asbestos or have any reason to believe you may have contracted this type of cancer go speak with your doctor immediately. Mesothelioma is much more treatable when it is identified early and that can only be achieved through proper testing.

4 Major Risk Factors For Small Cell Lung Cancer

Lung cancer can be broken down into two types; small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancer. SCLC accounts for approximately 20% of all lung cancers. It is often referred to as oat cell carcinoma because the small cells of the lung have a similar appearance to oats. SCLC develops when there is a rapid and uncontrollable growth in the small cells of the lung that eventually leads to a malignant (cancerous) tumour forming. In this article I will be discussing four risk factors that can contribute to the development of this cancer.

1) SMOKING:- Tobacco smoke is the leading risk factor for all types of lung cancer. It is strongly linked with SCLC and is believed to be responsible for over 90% of cases. Even if you do not smoke personally being around others that do can significantly increase your risk of contracting this type of cancer.

The reason that tobacco smoke is such a strong risk factor for SCLC is that it is full of carcinogens (cancer causing substances). According to Cancer Research UK tobacco smoke can contain up to 70 different carcinogens. These carcinogens have been scientifically proven to damage DNA and alter important genes which can then cause your body's cells to multiply in a rapid and uncontrollable way. When you inhale tobacco smoke (either directly through a cigarette or indirectly through second hand smoke) these carcinogens go straight to your lungs greatly improving the risk of lung cancer and SCLC developing.

2) URANIUM:- Exposure to uranium is thought to increase your risk of developing all types of lung cancer. However, it is most strongly linked with the development of SCLC. A combination of uranium exposure and exposure to tobacco smoke increases your chances of developing SCLC even further.

The reason uranium increases your risk of contracting SCLC is that uranium ores are radioactive. Radon (a gas that is created when uranium breaks down) is also highly radioactive. Research has shown that prolonged exposure to radioactive materials can cause cancer. When people are exposed to uranium it is often inhaled meaning that the radioactive materials are carried directly to the lungs. These radioactive materials can then cause cancerous growth in the small cells of the lungs.

3) ASBESTOS:- Asbestos is most strongly linked with a rare kind of cancer called mesothelioma. However, it has also been linked with increasing the risk for other types of lung cancer including SCLC. Asbestos exposure combined with tobacco smoke greatly increases your small cell lung cancer risk.

The reason asbestos increases your chances of developing SCLC is that when it becomes disturbed very fine fibres are released. These fibres irritate the body's cells and can lead to the development of cancer. If they become lodged in the small cells of the lung they can stimulate the development of SCLC.

4) POOR DIET:- According to Cancer Research UK not getting enough fruit and vegetables in your diet can increase your risk of developing SCLC. The reason for this is that both fruits and vegetables are a rich source of vitamins, anti-oxidants and other chemicals that help prevent cell damage. If you are deficient in any of these then the small cells of your lung may be more susceptible to cancer.

SCLC is not a pleasant condition. However, unlike many other types of cancer where the risk factors are unclear, SCLC has a number of very definite risk factors. In particular smoking has been scientifically proven to significantly increase your small cell lung cancer risk. You can have a direct impact on your chances of getting this cancer. I hope this article has helped you see that.

Whilst every intention has been made to make this article accurate and informative, it is intended for general information only. Small cell lung cancer is a very serious, life threatening condition and you should discuss any concerns, treatments or lifestyle changes fully with your doctor.
