Understanding the Survival Rate in Lung Cancer

By Antonio Ricaute

Numerous of elements determine lung cancer survival rates including the kind of cancer, the phase it is at once diagnosed, and the general health status of the affected person altogether represent a function in determining lung cancer survival rate. Cancer survival is generally related to a five-year survival rate. This means patients who live at least five years after the cancer is diagnosed may be considered cancer survivors.

Stage 0 patients overcome lung cancer, of approximately 50 percent. One quarter of stage II patients make it to 5 years. 8 percent of stage III patients make it to 5 years. Only 2 percent amount to what is stage IV cancers survival rate. patients survive the disease. Generally, small-scale cell cancer quickly develops to fatal disease. 10 to 15 percent of patients with limited-stage small-scale cell lung cancer, and between 1 and 2 percent of those with extensive-stage cancer, live on to 5 years.

There are survivors of lung cancer.

Frank was diagnosed with lung cancer with six months more to live. He was informed that there was nothing that can be done about it. He still decided on fighting the cancer and his surgery revealed a 10 centimeter primary tumor in the left lower lobe which was identified as a squamous cell carcinoma. Three lymph nodes were positive of metastatic disease. He was able to come through the surgery without complications. Today, he is living an active life. He and Nellie(his husband) have retired to Lake Tenkiller, Oklahoma.

John Kleinfeldt survived lung cancer. Anyone who follows the statistics on cancer survival would have given up on his case. His journey with cancer began with a regular check up with his doctor. He was 58 years old when tests resulted to anemia. An x-ray confirmed lung cancer. After several opinions on his diagnosis, he went to a cancer center and pursued treatment. Survival Statistics Of Cancer

By Rita Goldman

Explaining Cancer Survival Statistics

Just like any other statistics, cancer survival statistics express statistical probability. It is the approximate calculation of the amount of cancer patients who will survive cancer regardless of their condition. Statistics can be good or bad.

As stated by Sen. Mitch McConnell on Health-Care Reform

Senate Wednesday, June 10, 2009

"One thing most people like about health care in the U.S. is the quality of cancer care that's available here. Far too many Americans die from cancer. Yet for all the problems we have, the fact is, America boasts some of the highest cancer survival rates in the world".

Cancer, when diagnosed and treated on its early stage has a higher chance of survival. So a woman who regularly examine her breast and had her regular mammograms before diagnosis of cancer has a higher chance of survival. This only proves that how you value your health before and after cancer has a great effect on the prognosis of cancer.

That is not to minimize the treatment nor its affect on the patient, but it is amazing the mental difference that a hundred percent cancer survival prognosis can have. A bad mental attitude does not help being positive and upbeat is a vital process in adjusting cancer survival statistics in your favor. Despite the fact that most people are terrified when they first receive the news that they have breast cancer overcoming that fear is a major part of the prognosis. Understanding cancer survival statistics can be extremely helpful in controlling your fears.

Few breast conserving treatment (BCT) data include women older than 70, yet a study of 910 women being treated by BCT for stage I"II breast cancer, when all patients received Radiotherapy (RT) found that a 65 month follow up found that a second cancer occurred in only 5.6 percent of cases. Six hundred and seventy six percent of cases were in complete remission (74.3%), 22 were evaluative (2.4%). 206 patients died (22.6%). The results of this study concluded that those that needed more aggressive treatment had been identified.

Improving cancer survival statistics is within your power, and empowerment regarding your treatment is the first of a series of steps that enable you to cheat the cancer survival statistics. Today cancer is a serious disease but it is not an automatic death sentence. The chance of surviving cancer depends firstly and foremost on the type of cancer, but your immediate environment, your diet, your mental state, your lifestyle all have an impact on whether your cancer survival statistics are better than the average.

Why You Can Beat Cancer Survival Statistics

By Rita Dalian

Whether you think that you can, or that you cant, you are usually right -Henry Ford-

Cancer is a unique disease and the footprint of that disease changes according to your unique body and your unique environment. No two cases of cancer are exactly equal and that in itself makes a mockery of cancer survival statistics. Cancer survival statistics can be frightening, and at first glance they can induce a sense of panic.

Cancer survival statistics will always give the probability of what will happen. It can never give the exact number of years a cancer patient will survive, or what will exactly happen. As it portraits a picture of what you should expect, it never came out of the frame of probability. Remember that the desire of a person to live can make a big difference. It can beat the odds, if you believe it will.

The result of realizing that you have cancer is very fearful. This fear may turn to be depression, and so on. Just like the others who also felt that way, it is normal. But people who follow this path are the people who proves the probability of statistics to be true.

Fear is normal. But this is the best time to believe that there is something more important than fear... it's your life. You should not allow your fear to eat you whole and drag you to a depression. It is your life you need to defend, and the best way to do it is to know that you can survive.

Whatever you read or see about cancer survival statistics, whether it is a medical paper, on the television, on the radio, in a newspaper or on the Internet, does not mean that they have to apply to you. It is your body and your cancer and you are in control and the earlier that you exercise that control the better you will be.
